With the warmer weather here, now is the ideal time to inspect your home to keep it running in top shape.

Windows, Doors and Screens: Clean all windows and screens. If holes have developed in your screens, be sure to patch them up or have them replaced. Take a moment to tighten and lubricate door hinges to prevent any squeaks. Also, check your windows and door sills for cracks and fill them with caulking if necessary.

Check Your Gutters: Improper gutter drainage can lead to water damage in around your house and shingles. Ensure your gutters and downspouts are clear of debris and are directed to drain away from your home’s foundation.

Check your shingles: Extreme winter weather can cause damage to your roof, which means it’s a good idea to examine roof shingles or hire a professional to do so. Repairing any loose shingles or other issues now can save you from the hassle of dealing with a leaky roof.

Change your Humidifier Settings: During winter months, your humidifier is set to around 20 percent. When the warmer weather arrives, you can bump it up to around 40 percent – each home is different so give us a call if you have any questions. If you followed along with our AC Start Up Video last week, we’ll see that we even recommend you to turn your humidifier off for the summer so that you don’t freeze your system.

Check your AC and Furnace: Spring is the best time to make sure your air conditioner or central air unit is ready for the warmer weather. Change your furnace filters to keep your system running efficiently! We recommend changing your filters every 3 months, and if you’ve been following along with our replacement schedule on facebook or instagram, it’s time to replace yours now! And yes, you still need to change your filters throughout the spring and summer, even if you don’t have AC! Most people run their furnace blower during the summer to help with air movement, which means you need a clean furnace filter to ensure you do not strain your furnace blower.

It’s also time to schedule an appointment if your system is due for maintenance. At Ignite, we suggest annual maintenance of you unit to ensure it will perform optimally for the season. For your Air Conditioner, a maintenance visit consists of a deep clean of the outdoor condensing unit, checking for signs of refrigerant leaks, and ensuring the unit is will perform efficiently for the season. Call us @ 780.919.4916 if it’s time for maintenance on your Air Conditioner.

You can also join our Maintenance Club and we will take care of the required maintenance for your Air Conditioner and Furnace annually (click here for more information.)
